The $330 price tag on the Samsung NC110-A02 has kept it worlds apart from the formulaic netbooks being sold in the market. Its focus is on the battery life and design. It does have some features it excels in but they do not differ much from the hundreds of netbooks available.
Design is definitely the key feature of the Samsung NC110-A02. It has a bright blue casing on the lid area that is able to attract almost anyone. The keyboard area is coated in a silvery white color that accents the blue.
The keyboard is a full size Chiclet-style one and is very comfortable to use.Your fingers will feel right at home when using it. The touchpad’s responsiveness can be considered average. There is a problem though with the delineation of the buttons. At times, you might click the buttons instead of scrolling.
Samsung has created the bottom half with very little plastic in order to keep it as light as possible. Despite its lightweight nature, it still manages to have complete features such as an Ethernet and 3 USB ports. It also has a multi card reader and VGA output.
Given that it costs very little, it is expected that the specifications are not that awesome. The Samsung NC110-A02 comes with 1GB DDR3 RAM. That is pretty standard for all netbooks with 10-inch screens. The processor is an Intel Atom N455 that runs on a single-core. This processing power is good enough to run two to three applications at the same time.
The hard drive space is probably the lowest you can achieve for a netbook, 250GB. Again, given the price, that is already fine. Windows 7 Starter is already installed on the drive. This is fine for some but there are certainly some features that will be unavailable.
The Samsung NC110-A02 also has an interesting feature called Fast Start. Its main purpose is to eliminate the wait time when powering up the device. The time it takes for the netbook to fully power up when opening the lid is three seconds which is not bad. Fast Start also saves the data you have which remained unsaved upon closing the lid.
It cannot be stressed enough that the Samsung NC110-A02 is alright considering the list price it has. People who are expecting more should also expect to pay more. While the netbook has seemingly average features, one area which it excels in is battery life. This device can last up to 10.7 hours without charging thanks to its 6-cell Lithium Ion battery. That is something that no other netbook can easily attain.
