With so much power going into the computers we use these days, you would think we have created machines with enough space to satisfy our needs. Not surprisingly, though, the more space we have, the more we want to fill. It’s a lot like a house. You’re probably going to figure out how to fill all the rooms with something.
This is why we have need for external hard drives. These storage units are great for their portability. If all storage devices offer jus storage, then how are some better than others? The Rebit 5, at $124.95, is better than the competition for a number of reasons.
The Rebit 5 is easy to install. When you plug it in to your laptop or PC, you get the prompt, click a few times and it uploads its software. Unfortunately, this hard drive only works on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Vista, it does not work on Macs. This means that users should think in the long-term, deciding whether or not they’ll one day switch to a Mac machine.
The Rebit 5 has ordinary, unobtrusive looks. Measuring 5x2x8.5 inches, it’s a convenient size for a hard drive of this caliber. It can sit independently of its stand, but the stand allows for a secure fit.
With the Rebit 5, users get 1 whole terabyte of storage space. The 2 terabyte version is also available, a good choice especially if users are heavy on the film editing software. On the back of the machine users will find 2 USB 2.0 ports. The machine connects to the computer with the USB port, but it would be nice if it offered a USB 3.0 connection, since the future is filled with USB 3.0 connections. Users also find the on/off button and the power input on the back of the little machine.
The Rebit 5’s grandest feature is the software it packs in. It offers an incredible backup system that will backup not just document files, but the whole hard drive. In fact, when users first install the hard drive software, it automatically begins the process of copying the entire C drive. The backup drive can be configured with a password for extra protection, although the default setting forgoes it.
The software also has disaster recovery protection, so if your entire system fails, the hard drive will not, and will instead recall it all back to life. Rebit 5 can even restore the entire state of the hard drive as it was during any point in time before a crash. It’s a time-traveler.
Since the software is the greatest part of the system, users will be happy to find that they can purchase it separately. This way, they can pair the software with another storage device that does employ USB 3.0.
All in all the Rebit 5 1TB hard drive is a solid choice for a solid price.
